More than 100 houses has been destroyed by the collapsing of a section of the Meethotamulla garbage mountain.  Several people were injured and around 11 people have lost their lives.

President HE Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the three forces, Police and the Disaster Management Ministry to provide immediate relief to those who were affected due to the incident.

Sri Lanka Air Force said that it has deployed a helicopter with a Bambi bucket to control a fire that broke out after the collapsing of the garbage dump.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said no more garbage will be dumped at this site and two temporary sites were identified this morning for which law enforcement officers will provide access to unblock protesters.
